You can travel during Ramadan but it’s necessary to keep in mind some details before traveling. If the trip begins in one of the Imperial Cities, check first if you can have a Full Board (breakfast, lunch and dinner provided) in your accommodation, because not all of them provide it. In the most popular cities, such as Fez or Marrakech, there are a lot of restaurants open for tourists, but in other cities it’s practically impossible to find where to eat (lunch) during Ramadan. On the other hand, there is a big variety and special offer for dinners after fasting at sunset.

If you want to travel to Morocco during Ramadan, Morocco Travels Tour suggest you to choose a desert tour since all the hotels and all the activities are running as at any other time of the year.

Morocco Travels Tour will provide you with Internet during all your trip. Our transports are equipped with Wi-Fi so you can chill and keep in touch from the road sharing your best lives everywhere!

When is the best time to travel to Morocco?

In Morocco, as it happens in many other countries, one date or another may correspond better depending on the place where you want to go. As always, here we give you some advice for you.

If what you are thinking about is to get a trip on the desert, we can assure you that summer is not the best time, despite if you’re looking for “sand bath”, a famous tradition in desert regions.

If you want to enjoy the Atlantic coast, perhaps summer is the best time for you, since the refreshing ocean breeze leaves the perfect temperature for that. If you’re a surf lover we suggest to wait until September and you’ll enjoy the best waves in Essaouira and Sidi Kaouki.

Is it safe traveling with children?

If you’re thinking of coming to Morocco with children it’s important to know that in the Moroccan culture children and family have a very important role..

It’s very common for Moroccan families to have several children and to spend most of their time on the street without having any particular issues. So if you had some doubt, you can relax while traveling to Morocco because actually, it can be an unforgettable experience for the little ones as well.

It will be necessary to keep in mind some details so children don’t lack of anything since in some places in Morocco certain products or brands for babies won’t be found in any store.

Here we’ll leave you some advice if you are thinking of traveling with children:

If you need some specific brand products, try to bring them with you before traveling. In case you may need something at your arrival, you should go to bigger cities such as Casablanca, Marrakech or Ouarzazate to do your purchase. Supermarkets such as Marjane, Acima or Carrefour will please your needs.

While going on a tour to Morocco with children, the most important thing to keep in mind is when getting in a transport, sometimes schedules can be tough for them. Always try to choose a tour with many different ranges where distances are shorter and children can enjoy better of the different activities to do in each place.

Money transfers and exchange

All you need to know about Moroccan currency, exchange, value and some advice to experience the place like a local.

MOROCCAN CURRENCY

When we travel to a country it’s essential to know the local currency and how it works. We will ask ourselves questions like: What currency do they manage? How much is the money exchange? Where can I do the money exchange?

That is why in Morocco Travels Tour we will sort out all the questions you may have about money exchange and we will give you some advice to comfortably get around Morocco.

What is currency in Morocco?

The currency in Morocco is the Moroccan Dirham. Its ISO code is MAD (Moroccan Dirham). We can sometimes find in little grocery stores and restaurants prices written as (Dh).

Like other currencies, the Dirham is subdivided into 100 cents. The coins and bills that you can find here are:

  • Bills: 20, 50, 100 y 200 MAD
  • Coins: 1, 2, 5, 10 MAD and cents about 0,5, 0,25 and 0,05 MAD, although the last one you will rarely use it if you travel through Morocco.

How much is the currency exchange?

Its usual change (1 USD = 9,45 MAD / 1 EUR = 11 MAD) may vary according to demand. You can check the market value through different websites such as XEcurrency or if you want more information, you can also check the official page of Office des Changes.

Where can I make the currency exchange?

You can change money at airports, sea crossings and borders. Once in Morocco you can also go to any bank or exchange office that you will find in all the cities of the country.

There are also some riads and hotels that make currency exchanges, but you need to be aware of which one when traveling.

Credit cards and ATMs.

In Morocco, you can use your credit card to make payments as well as withdraw money from ATMs, which you find scattered throughout the cities.

You must be aware too that its use is not as widespread as in other countries, so we can find service stations, restaurants and grocery stores that won’t accept this payment method.

If you want to withdraw money from an ATM, you should keep in mind that the commissions imposed by banks are very different and sometimes very expensive, so we recommend you to be informed about the conditions of your bank abroad before carrying out any operation.

Some advice to get around Morocco.

Although currency it’s mostly used, it can be employed differently depending on the country where we are. Below we will give you some tips and information on the use of currency in Morocco.

Bargains

If Morocco is known for something, that’s for its old tradition of “negotiating the price”. Surely you have heard of the Marrakech Souk and its Jemma El Fna square, where each merchant will try to make you negotiate with him to sell his product.

This practice has been reduced to the most tourist places, like Marrakech or Fez, and more and more merchants are starting to set the prices of their products.

Outside of tourist places, the act of negotiating does not consist in obtaining the lowest price but getting the product despite the shortage of this money.

Here is our advice: “If you want to learn to negotiate, don’t change your price too many times, set the price you consider fair and make the final offer, you will only have to wait for the merchant to accept or you just need to adjust it to the merchant’s.”

Tips

In Morocco you will see that tips are very common, from tour guides, restaurants, valets, cleaners located in the bathrooms to others.

Tips can vary between 2 and 5 MAD in services such as, bathrooms, valet for suitcases, refueling, etc. In restaurants it is common to leave between 10 or 20 MAD except in luxury restaurants where the tip is about a 10% approx. It may be the most appropriate. As for tourist guides and private drivers, tips usually range from MAD 50 for guides up to MAD 200 and thereafter for drivers.

But you must be careful as tips can be a source of scams.

Here we leave you some advice: “Don’t accept any local who offers you a visit tour because he’ll only wait for your tip and he’ll most likely want more than you gave him (even if that amount was already generous). Likewise, be careful with services that may be offered to you on the street, such as carrying your suitcases, indicating you and accompanying you to where the place you are looking for is, and many other small proposals that can be made. They will always ask for your money”.
